Shirah Cahill - 2019 David Green Memorial Award Winner

SAGE is thrilled to announce the recipient of the 2019 David Green Memorial Award. For the first time, the award provides a first-time EFA conference attendee with an Environments for Aging Conference Experience, including travel, lodging, EFA Conference registration and related expenses as well as networking opportunities with SAGE thought leaders.

The selection committee, made up of Maggie Calkins, David Soens, Andrew Alden, and Addie Abushousheh, all knew and worked with David Green--one of the founding members of SAGE who was instrumental in creating the major principals that guide it today--and were pleased to play a role in honoring his legacy. "I think David would be thrilled to know that the David Green Memorial Award monies are being used to create an EFA experience for someone interested in serving older adults--to get them embedded in the EFA experience and the SAGE experience," said Andrew.

Please join us in congratulating Shirah Cahill, landscape designer at SWBR, as the 2019 recipient. When asked what inspired her passion in environments for older adults, Shirah answered, "It’s my love for my family, my respect for my elders, my continued desire for professional challenges and the power that I observe in the physical environment to affect our quality of life. As a landscape architect, I consider the power of public space all the time."

She adds, "Thank you to SAGE for this incredible opportunity to learn from the best and to meet the professionals who are pushing the envelope in the design of environments for aging adults. I am genuinely humbled and honored by this award and can’t wait to be inspired by those who spend their lives working diligently to improve the lives of others.”
