History of SAGE
Since its founding in 1994, SAGE Federation has successfully advocated improving the built environment for older adults. Based upon a common desire for change, the SAGE organization has evolved from a few volunteers into a multi-state organization with hundreds of members. SAGE has an active National Federation Advisory Council and local chapters in several states.
- SAGE fosters a multi-disciplinary membership consisting of aging services providers, design professionals, regulators, residents, researchers, manufacturers, educators, students and others committed to SAGE's mission.
- SAGE partners with organizations to jointly advocate for physical environments that improve a resident’s quality of life and sustain resident-centered care and aging in place.
- SAGE members jury design competitions, organize and present at educational symposia, and train and conduct postoccupancy evaluations of environments for older adults.
- SAGE encourages implementation of evidence-based design research.
- SAGE encourages regulatory change formore effective environments.
