Mission of SAGE

To promote collaboration among health care and design professionals, government officials, residents, researchers, manufacturers and other interested individuals so that education, research, regulation and practice all result in appropriate environments for older adults.

SAGE encourages innovation and change in environments for the aged.

How does SAGE achieve this mission?

SAGE concentrates on four areas to promote change:

1. Multi-Disciplinary Collaboration: The multi-disciplinary collaboration affects every aspect of SAGE. The volunteer membership has expanded to include professionals from all aspects of the senior housing & senior care industry.

2. Education: Education is promoted through the presentation of educational sessions at established national and regional conferences. In addition, SAGE organizes local SAGE day events, national conferences and the annual DESIGN review in cooperation with Nursing Homes Long Term Care Management magazine. Educational sessions and conference themes incorporate many different aspects of “Design for Aging”.

3. Research: Conducts evaluations of senior living environments and shares the results through a variety of means including conferences and publications.

4. Regulatory change: Regulatory change is possible through the collaborative efforts of members and the involvement of local and national regulators in the SAGE process.

Based upon a history of collaboration with individuals who have a desire to encourage change in the built environment through research, education, and regulatory reform, SAGE will continue to thrive and grow in the future.
